A State Of Trance DJ contest is over... And I have huge news to share - I am one of the two finalists who won the DJ competition! I am going to open the Saturday night of the "A State Of Trance 2024" event in Rotterdam. It really is a dream come true!

I decided to make my set public after the official announcement. This was my submission for the Armada University - A State Of Trance DJ Contest sent on December 5, 2023. I hope you will enjoy the music - please find attached below a little backstory about the set I prepared and what you can expect from me during the Saturday set (February 24, 2024) at Area Five.

Armin van Buuren has been my biggest inspiration to become a DJ. Let me take you back to 2011, during my middle school days when I discovered his A State Of Trance radio show. The first episode I encountered was #457, and let me tell you, those 2 hours were an absolute thrill. It felt like discovering something completely new, as I wasn't familiar with the trance genre back then.

After hearing episode #457, I was hungry for more. And that was when I came across the ASOT 500 celebration (and the 10th birthday of the radio show at the same time) around March/April. I remember staying up all night, listening to all the sets, immersing myself in the various beats of progressive and uplifting sounds. That's when my love for trance music deepened, and I decided to become a DJ one day. I looked up to the artists performing there, especially to the main host, Armin. I even imagined myself being in the lineup. I think 2011-2012 was my peak time when I was fascinated by trance music (and EDM in general), and these years have sentimental meaning for me.

When 2020 hit, we all know what happened. This year felt like a roller-coaster, but at the same time, I have made probably one of the best decisions ever. As I spent most of my time locked in my home, I spent more time on the Internet. That's how I discovered many DJs streaming on Twitch, for example, Ruben de Ronde. I joined his community and met a lot of amazing people there.

Seeing other people doing their DJ streams and still listening to ASOT online, I finally decided to fulfill my middle school dream during the lockdown. As risky as it sounds to invest all my savings in DJ equipment, I do not regret it. I started doing my streams on Twitch, and I continue this journey until this day. I am living this passion!

Whenever I stream on Twitch, I still remember myself from 12 years ago - young Maciek, dreaming of performing at an ASOT event. When I first heard about the DJ contest, I had to work on something special. As a tribute to the 2011-2012 years and the ASOT 500 celebration, I decided to prepare a DJ set that would connect the new sounds of melodic & progressive with some well-known (and lesser-known) gems from the magical 2011-2012 era.

I am a self-taught DJ who still wants to grow and improve my skills by attending various DJ contests. Having won the ASOT contest, this is my chance to present my sets and mashups to the broader audience. See you in Rotterdam Ahoy during the ASOT weekend!
